OPEN LETTER FROM STMA PRESIDENT
Sent on behalf of STMA President Jimmy Simpson, CSFM
TO: Members of STMA Affiliated Chapters
I hope you and your families are well and staying safe during this unprecedented time.
Recently I invited the leadership of our 32 chapters to participate in a Zoom meeting to better understand how our industry is faring throughout the country and what STMA can do to help support chapters.
There was a lot of great information shared on the call. However, my main take-away is that sports field managers are, for the most part, being treated as essential personnel. It was also obvious that in many cases work schedules and cultural practices are being altered. A direct outcome of this meeting is for STMA to more frequently provide information to chapter members and make available resources that are traditionally behind the members-only wall. That is now complete. Anyone interested in our continuing education resources can register as a New Visitor at STMA.org and have six months access to our members-only education — virtually a free membership.
In addition, we know that our commercial partners have excellent continuing education. We are developing a Commercial Partners Virtual Learning Lab on STMA.org with links to their webinars, podcasts and other resources that are educational — not promotional. That will be available next week.
As we navigate these times, our need to stay positive and have some normalcy is critical to executing our jobs as sports field managers. Immersing yourself or your team in a continuing education opportunity may indeed provide a short respite that feels “normal”. As things rapidly change please share with your chapter leaders or with STMA any suggestions that we can do to help you.
I look forward to reaching out again soon.
Jimmy Simpson, CSFM
